Kolkata, March 14 (IANS) Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) secretary general Amit Mitra Monday officially joined the Trinamool Congress. He could be fielded from Khardaha assembly constituency against senior Marxist leader and state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta.
Mitra Monday met Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at her residence for more than half-an-hour.
‘Today I have joined Trinamool Congress and I am ready to contest from whichever constituency I am asked to by the party,’ Mitra told reporters after coming out of Banerjee’s residence.
A senior Trinamool Congress leader on condition of anonymity said Mitra will contest from the Khardaha assembly constituency against Asim Dasgupta.
Taking a dig at opposition parties that have tried to label Banerjee ‘anti- industry’, Mitra said: ‘It is totally wrong. Banerjee for the first time introduced public-private partnership (PPP) in the railways.’
Mitra also asserted that new industries will be attracted to West Bengal under Banerjee’s leadership.
‘There will be PPP models in Bengal also. The industrial prospects are very bright in the state under Banerjee’s leadership,’ said Mitra.
Six-phased assembly elections will be held in the state from April 18 to May 10.
